Shaina Marie Afful is the Director of Marketing and Communications, blog writer, and a powerful speaker/presenter for Steered Straight. Shaina is a proud first-generation college graduate, who gratefully attended Middle Tennessee State University as a student-athlete on a full academic and athletic scholarship. She has been featured in The Tennessean newspaper as a high school student for showing outstanding sportsmanship and being one of the top runners in the state of Tennessee.

She also won many awards for both academic achievements and track and field related accomplishments during her 4-year tenure at MTSU. In her spare time she enjoys regularly posting video’s on her YouTube Channel (which you may search by her name).  Her triumphant story is one of hope, optimism, and inspiration; no matter what you’ve gone through, where you’ve been, or what you will face you can be triumphal if you choose, but YOU MUST FIRST CHOOSE.

Shaina’s life battles included: sexual abuse, homelessness, lack of stability, bullying, verbal and physical abuse, and battling with low self-esteem, depression, and suicidal thoughts. She also was traumatized by the attempted suicide of her older brother, whom she managed to save. Shaina believes that youth need to know that each and every life is precious and should not be taken for granted. She speaks to the core of her audience to show they are not their past or current situation and that we all must have fundamental core values, intentionally work on building a strong character of who we are in our individual stories, and not wavier from those core principles. She motivates and encourages each listener to remember that in the mist of battles it is an opportunity to learn, though it may be a painful experience, it is the battle scars that allow us to help others overcome and achieve victory who may be facing similar oppositions.  Her primary target audience are youth and young adults ages: 12-25 but she also has a message for adults 26+ Topics she enjoys speaking on:
